Position
We are seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated workshop engineer or tool maker to join our talented precision engineering team in Lechlade to undertake rare engineering tasks across every aspect of restoration, reclamation, repair, component part production and engine reconditioning. The role will focus on evaluating the requirement of each project on an individual basis and recommend solutions and to use engineering knowledge and techniques to understand and carry out restoration, reclamation, and reconditioning tasks. It will provide hands-on technical support to meet customer requirements ensuring that the highest level of quality and customer service are achieved.
The Candidate
Key responsibilities will be to:
- Understand each individual engineering requirement by project and use engineering experience and techniques to carry out all customer requirements
- Identify problems and cause of failure, strip component and carry out preparation and cleaning where possible
- Inspect relevant components and identify cause of failure, carry out restoration, reclamation or reconditioning tasks as required, refit or manufacture with reference to and interpretation of relevant production information and where available, original manufacturer manuals or customer specification. Work is to be carried out in accordance with the Company Procedure
- Identify parts requirements and assist in the effective sourcing of parts. This may require reverse engineering methods to produce parts that are no longer available
- Efficient and effective use of a range of machinery to carry out required repairs, restoration to specifications, including turning, milling, boring, and grinding. Build the relevant part or components to the defined standard ensuring fits, clearances and modification standards are accurate
- Carry out final checks on completed work; all work must adhere to the Company’s quality standards • Effective communication with the internal team to resolve issues during the project; liaise with internal departments, provide data including job cards, timeline, and costings to ensure accuracy of estimates and invoices
- Assist in managing customer relationships. All work is to be completed within estimates and timelines. Should the work need to be re-assessed ensure that the customer is advised, and approval is obtained for any deviations or additional work identified, including impact on timeline and budget
- Provide technical/engineering support as required to internal department and customers to ensure that customer queries are dealt with professionally and expediently. Working with suppliers, colleagues, and customers to provide solutions to engineering and component re-manufacturing requirements
- Test and verify automotive parts and components using various tools and precision measuring equipment such as dial gauges, micrometres, setting gauges, vernier callipers etc
- Carry out general administration (all paperwork completed and logged) and engineering workshop duties; ensure that the work area is kept clean, tidy and is safe to work in

Experience
- 5 years + engineering experience with proven knowledge in general engineering and traditional machining methods
- Engineering and re-manufacturing experience including reverse engineering and pressure testing • Experience working on classic, vintage vehicles
- Restoration, reclamation, and engine reconditioning
- An interest in the mechanical aspects of classic cars/vehicles
- A good understanding on internal combustion engines, and traditional associated skills would be useful
